What’s a WOG?

Carolyn, 5 Feb 2010

Throughout this website you will see the word “WOG”.  It’s simply short for Women of Green. (We thought it sounded fun and strong, so it stuck.). So the real question is “What’s a Woman of Green?” Or put another way, “What does it mean to be a woman of green?”  That was the exact question Carolyn asked a dozen or so woman at Green America’s Green Festival in San Francisco. With over 45,000 green-minded beings buzzing around, we knew we would get some juicy answers. And we did. Here’s some of them.

“What does it mean to be a woman of green?”

  • It means to be a woman who is willing to stand up and to speak out behalf of the earth and the people of the earth against so many of the thoughtless wrongs that are being perpetuated.
  • It means you are conscious about what you are doing.
  • It means changing habits a little at a time.
  • A woman a green is a woman who is connected to her heart and to her womb.
  • It means to be empowering and empowered and to be able to speak your voice about the things that are important to you.
  • It means to motivate people and inspire them to make a difference.

Women of Green. Turn Up the Volume.

Women of Green is a podcast and community with a singular purpose. To turn up the volume of the feminine voice on behalf of our planet and future generations. Because, we believe, what we do now is critical to what’s about to unfold. And in our humble opinion, part of the solution is women. The integration of her ideas, her dreams and her solutions in this critical time we’re in.

You’ll be hearing from artists and authors, mommies and business women, and activists and social entrepreneurs. These women are here to make a difference and use their voices and talents to BE the change we need on our planet right now.

It’s Women, not Woman

Now notice we have been saying women, not woman. It’s going to take a village, girls. So let’s hear from you. And since you’re reading this now, it’s a perfect time to add to this conversation. Let’s call it our WOGipedia. We’ve made it easy. So here it is. The first definition we’ll co-create together:

What does it mean to be a woman of green?

Thanks Ann. Straight to the point. And if everyone did that, reexamine what we do, sustainability wouldn’t be just “green”. It would just be.

For myself being a WOG means being an authentic “human being” as close to our natural indigenous state as possible in how we give birth, what we eat, what we wear, how we live and how we die – leaving no waste and no trace.
