I’ve been following the family planning cuts closely but am only now becoming aware of the drastic and dangerous proposed cuts to the systems that enforce food safety regulations, which may very well fall casualty to the congressional budget-cutting fervor. It has been proven again and again that Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs) are dangerous to the health of the animal and the people who consume their meat. What will happen when the daily inspections meant to keep those slaughterhouses free of salmonella and ecoli no longer have the funding they need to operate?
